Protecting Our Drinking Water

Click here to read an important communication from our system operator, Todd Everson of Well-Tapped Water, asking for your assistance in protecting our water supply.

There are a number of ways in which you can help reduce the possibility of contamination of this water supply. For example:

  • Pump out your septic tank every two to three years.
  • Maintain any innovative/alternative wastewater treatment system with the service of a licensed wastewater operator.
  • Do not use commercial septic tank cleaners as these materials reduce the effectiveness of the system by killing necessary microorganisms and can pass through the system and contaminate groundwater.
  • Do not put hazardous materials down the sink, toilet, or floor drain.
  • Do not apply hazardous or toxic materials to lawns or other areas of your property as they can seep into the ground and reach the water supply.
  • Do not dispose of used motor oil on your property or into storm sewers.
  • If you use fuel oil as an energy source for your home, check the condition of your storage tank and filter regularly; use a double-walled stainless-steel tank.

We urge you to read more, and we thank you for your cooperation in protecting our drinking water.
